Fendi established the first handbag shop and fur workshop in Via del Plebiscito, Rome in 1925. The new venture was led by a couple named Edoardo and Adele Fendi.The business immediately wins great acclaim for the quality of its products and as the business grows from strength to strength during the 1930s and 40s, expands the fur workshops and the Fendi name becomes famous outside of the capital city of Rome. The couple's five daughters eventually entered the family business, and in 1965, the Fendis hired emerging talent Karl Lagerfeld. Now today Fendi is a multinational luxury goods brand owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy and Karl Lagerfeld remains as the creative director.
